Tasmania - beyond the distillery doors.

Tasmania is an island that lies at the bottom of the world and relies on the quality of its produce and the conviction of its people to create some of the world’s finest spirits. The whisky and spirits industry in Tasmania is maturing every year and as it continues to expand and demand for premium Tasmanian produced spirits begins to grow, we need new and innovative solutions to help distilling businesses reach their full potential and become successful not only in Australia, but around the world. From an island home of just over half a million people, Tasmanian whisky was always destined for export markets. With forecast annual production growth of approx 32% for the industry in 23/24, a projected production value of approx A$424m and projected volume of over 32m litres of spirit, it may seem like a lot of distilled spirit, however this is only a drop in the ocean when compared to global consumption 1. With single-malt whisky and gin leading the way, the opportunity for vodka, brandy and other whisky products are yet to be fully realised.

WLD has an important role to play facilitating avenues for extensive business to business research and development, new recipes, volume growth and new product development that will see Tasmanian spirit export sales grow from 41% of distilleries in 2022 to 78% of Tasmanian distilleries forecast to sell products internationally by 2025.

Tasmania has a distinct market advantage of clean, green and sustainable brand values to stand out from the crowd when considering which spirit products to purchase. The future is bright and with market expansion and growth opportunities ever evolving, we look forward to contributing our part in the Tasmanian spirits story for many years to come.
